Removing dust from a household fan
Open and clean guards, blades and air passages only as far as the instructions permit.

Dust is especially visible around fan guards and edges. Before removing it, switch off, unplug and wait for all movement to stop. Turning the appliance off with its remote alone is not an appropriate safeguard for cleaning a connected device.
Check whether the guard is intended to be opened by the user. Some designs allow this; others limit maintenance to accessible surfaces and air openings. Do not pry a closed housing apart simply because dust is visible inside.
Begin gently from the outside
Remove loose deposits with a soft cloth or an approved soft brush. Dyson specifies a soft brush for debris around openings on certain fans. That does not authorise probing every opening with hard objects.
Support parts steadily and avoid pressure on thin guards or blades. If the guard may be removed, keep fasteners organised and note the fitting arrangement. Before damp cleaning, establish which components explicitly permit it. Motors, switches and electrical connections must remain dry.
Do not spray cleaning liquid directly into the appliance. Avoid aggressive solvents on plastics and never mix cleaning products. Follow the product-specific method for sticky deposits; harder scrubbing can damage a coating or distort delicate components.
Reassemble fully before restarting
All cleaned parts must be dry and correctly secured. Never omit a guard for supposedly improved airflow. Check catches and stability before reconnecting power.
Run briefly on a low setting and listen for new rubbing or rattling sounds. Stop again if something is wrong. Operating a bent part will not safely reshape it. If the cause cannot be resolved within the documented maintenance procedure, arrange an appropriate inspection.
Before longer storage, leave the fan clean and dry. Store it protected as instructed and avoid pulling on the cable. A short inspection at the start of the next season can reveal dust, damage or loose components that developed despite storage.
